The
term "New Media" refers to the convergence of the many fast, convenient, and
sophisticated means we have created over the last hundred years or so to send,
receive, store, access, manipulate, and display information.
New
Media productions are made possible by the digitalization and
standardization of media technologies. In other words, the
functions of books and magazines, stereos and compact disc players, fax
machines, televisions, telephones, film projectors, and so on, can more
and more easily be handled by a single device (a personal computer, for
example), rather than by a whole array of different devices. This
convergence makes the creating, sending, and receiving of complex,
interactive, multimedia messages more
simple and more viable than ever before.
